Systematic elucidation of matrix effects in liquid chromatography hyphenated to mass spectrometry

Summary Signal suppression occurs more frequently and more severely than signal enhancement. Injection volume and gradient runtime affect the degree of matrix effects. Stationary phase and pH influence the retention. The organic solvent can be used to control both degree and distribution of matrix within the chromatogram.
